Residential Comfort Advisor

Midwest Comfort Heating & Cooling is a locally owned and operated HVAC company that has served the Des Moines Metro since 2007.

Our reputation has been built by taking care of customers honestly, providing quality workmanship, and helping homeowners make informed decisions without unnecessary pressure. As demand for our services continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Residential Comfort Advisor to help homeowners evaluate their heating and cooling needs and choose the right solution for their home, budget, and comfort goals.

This is not a cold-calling or door-to-door sales position. You will meet with homeowners who have requested an estimate, been referred by one of our service technicians, or contacted Midwest Comfort about replacing or upgrading their HVAC system.

Compensation

Competitive base compensation plus commission and performance incentives.

Total earning potential will depend on experience, sales performance, and seasonal demand.

Benefits

  • Health and dental benefits
  • Retirement savings plan with company match
  • Accrued PTO and sick time
  • Paid holidays and holiday bonuses
  • Ongoing paid training and manufacturer classes
  • Regular compensation reviews
  • Company-provided uniforms
  • Discretionary tool, technology, or winter gear allowance
  • Occasional company outings

Position Responsibilities

  • Meet with homeowners to evaluate their heating, cooling, indoor air quality, and comfort needs
  • Inspect existing HVAC equipment and gather the information needed to prepare accurate replacement options
  • Explain equipment choices, efficiency ratings, warranties, financing options, rebates, and available upgrades
  • Present multiple options that allow customers to make an informed decision based on their home and budget
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and professional estimates
  • Follow up with customers regarding open proposals and unanswered questions
  • Coordinate sold projects with the installation, service, and office teams
  • Verify that job details, equipment selections, measurements, and customer expectations are documented correctly
  • Maintain accurate records of appointments, estimates, follow-ups, and completed sales
  • Participate in ongoing technical, product, financing, and sales training
  • Stay informed about current HVAC equipment, code requirements, manufacturer programs, rebates, and financing options
  • Represent Midwest Comfort professionally in customers’ homes and throughout the Des Moines community
  • Help ensure customers feel informed and confident before moving forward with a major home investment

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous HVAC sales, HVAC service, installation, or residential home-services sales experience
  • Working knowledge of residential heating and cooling equipment
  • Ability to identify replacement opportunities and recommend appropriate system options
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Confidence discussing pricing, financing, warranties, and long-term equipment value
  • Ability to sell without relying on fear, pressure, or misleading claims
  • Strong follow-up and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the rest of the team
  • Professional appearance and conduct inside customers’ homes
  • Comfortable using tablets, estimating software, email, and customer-management systems
  • Ability to measure equipment, access mechanical rooms, climb stairs, and inspect indoor and outdoor HVAC systems

Schedule

Most appointments are scheduled during regular business hours. However, some homeowners may require late-afternoon or early-evening appointments, particularly during the busiest heating and cooling seasons.

Occasional weekend availability may also be needed based on customer demand and seasonal workload.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Driving record that meets company insurance requirements
  • HVAC technical training, field experience, or previous in-home sales experience strongly preferred
  • EPA certification is helpful but not required
  • High school diploma or equivalent

The Right Fit for Midwest Comfort

We are looking for someone who understands that strong sales and honest customer service are not opposites.

The right person will be motivated to close business, follow up consistently, and meet performance goals while still giving homeowners the time and information they need to make the right decision. Our Comfort Advisor should be able to confidently recommend replacement when it is appropriate without making every appointment feel like a sales pitch.

At this time, preference will be given to applicants with previous HVAC, home-services, or in-home sales experience.
